McAvoy Plumbing & Heating

When we brought on Charlie McAvoy as a new BRUNT partner, the first thing we did was head down to Long Beach, NY to visit Charlie and his dad (also Charlie) at McAvoy Plumbing & Heating.

"You may have seen the news about BRUNT’s new partnership with Charlie McAvoy - and might be wondering why a workwear brand is now working with one of the best defensemen in the NHL. Let me tell you…

Charlie’s day job is serving as the Alternate Captain of the Boston Bruins, and as one of the original players on Team USA for the upcoming Olympics, but he grew up the same way I did. Charlie’s dad, also named Charlie, has spent the last 40 years running his soon-to-be fourth generation plumbing and heating business in Long Beach, NY. He grinded it out every day, supporting his community and his family. Go to work, come home dirty and tired, take his kid to the rink. Rinse and repeat. That’s how hard work and dedication were modeled at McAvoy Plumbing and Heating, and that’s how Charlie grew up - working with his dad, hanging around the shop, and seeing what his family was willing to do to make his dreams possible.

That all feels very familiar to me. I grew up with my dad working 3rd shift machining parts for airplane engines, and then roofing during the day so that my sisters and I could follow our passions. Charlie and I have different day jobs, but we both learned about the grind from parents who showed us what sacrifice and hard work looked like. There’s no way I would have been able to start BRUNT Workwear, or Charlie could take the ice at TD Garden, without those kinds of role models.

I had the chance to spend some time with Charlie and Charlie Sr at the shop a few weeks back, and also at the ice rink where Charlie grew up playing. Both great guys - salt of the earth people that are grounded by a shared understanding that nothing gets handed to you. You want something, you work for it. That’s what BRUNT is all about.

So that’s why it made perfect sense for a workwear brand to partner up with one of the best defensemen in the NHL - and the icing on top, we both come from blue collar roots and the work ethic that can make almost anything possible. Pumped to have you on the BRUNT team, Charlie. Let’s go!"
